different blocking.
By philosophy, I mean getting many plays out of similar looks. The are sticking with 11 personnel. And they motion as much or more than any team and those
motions set up runs.
What do is run a lot of out single back (what you are talking about) and tight formations ... they rin about 60 percent gap blocking and maybe 40 percent zone so they still do some zone.
But with tight formations and having Puka playing the Robert Woods role and Kupp doing what he always has they can get an advantage on teams that use nickel defense vs the 11 personnel.
In other words the Rams get the blocking of 12 personnel with 11 personnel. You can still run but also you have 3 receivers if yu want to throw.
tight formations either 2x2 or 3x1 but motions
When they run downhill they get double teams ... but also and extra blocker ... one of them is kind of doing what 2nd TE might do.
Then, as everyone knows, when the run well, they can play action.
If Rams run well, they can forced opponents to base defense and when they do that, they can throw it.
To me, the big thing is having a hard runner ... and a HEALTHY line. And that helps keep QB healthy.
Stafford is on the money these days.
