Did the Rams find another fifth-round gem in tight end Davis Allen?

The Los Angeles Rams are heading into the final stretch of the season. With just four games to play, the Rams are 6-7 and battling for a playoff spot in the NFC. While the loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 14 was disappointing, it showed how much this team has grown and what their ceiling can be. Here is this week’s stock up, stock down as he head into a Week 14 matchup against the Washington Commanders.

Stock Up: TE Davis Allen

It’s only one game, but it’s hard not to like what we saw from Davis Allen against the Baltimore Ravens. While he does need to find some consistency as a blocker, Allen has the size and receiving ability to dominate in the middle of the field.

Allen got an opportunity last week against the Ravens as Tyler Higbee and Hunter Long both went down with injuries. It’s going to be interesting to see whether or not Sean McVay continues to utilize the rookie tight end. If Allen continues to perform, it makes for yet another hit in the 2023 draft class for general manager Les Snead.

Stock Down: S Jordan Fuller

This was a big year for Jordan Fuller. After dealing with injuries, he came into the season healthy and was in a contract year. He was also the most experienced safety on the roster. The Rams were going to be looking at him to make plays and guide young players like Quentin Lake and Russ Yeast.

Fuller has had some positive moments this year. However, Sunday against the Ravens may have been one of his worst games as a pro. Not only did he get beat badly on a double move by Odell Beckham Jr. for a touchdown, but also was beat on the 3rd-and-17 that ended in a touchdown. It seems unlikely at this point that Fuller will break the Rams’ trend of not extending safeties.

Stock Up: WR DeMarcus Robinson

Robinson had been earning more playing time as of late following what was a really good training camp. Against his old team, Robinson had several big plays, including a touchdown. The former Ravens wide receiver also made a really nice catch along the sideline.

It would be shocking if Robinson wasn’t more involved in the Rams offense moving forward, especially with TuTu Atwell dealing with a concussion. Robinson was added this offseason to add another veteran to the receiver room. He’s likely going to play a large role down the stretch as the Rams fight for a playoff spot.

Stock Down: Punt Team

It always seems to be something with the Rams special teams unit. They currently rank dead last in special teams DVOA by a wide margin. On the bright side, the kicking game was fine. Meanwhile, it was the punt team that ended up costing the Rams the game.

Ethan Evans has had some good moments during his rookie year. With that said, and it was an issue in the preseason, he tends to out-kick his coverage. Not only was that the case on the walk-off return for a touchdown, but it was also a line drive kick down the middle of the field. The Rams also had an opportunity to down a punt inside the five and failed to do so. Both Evans and the coverage unit need to be better and work together.

Stock Up: Rams Team Development

There weren’t many, if any that expected the Rams to beat the Ravens. When all was said and done, an argument could be made that Los Angeles should have won that game. It really speaks to how far this young Rams team has come this season. They were 3-6 and all seemed lost. Now, they are 6-7 and fighting for a playoff spot in the NFC.

This Rams team has developed and gotten better seemingly every week. In a year they weren’t supposed to be competitive, they just took the AFC’s best team on the road coming off of a bye to overtime. There are no moral victories, but progress is good and that loss was a sign of progress. If you were to ask the second or third seed in the NFC who they don’t want to see in the playoffs, they would likely say the Rams.
