Goff as we can see in Detroit and in his early years with the Rams is a very good QB. Maybe not great but good to very good.
I am not sure what happened in LA but it seemed he was always under tremendous pressure both from the pass rush and the coach and he didn't do well under that pressure. Teams seemed to scheme the Rams differently and how we adjusted to the those schemes wasn't effective and the offense suffered.
Goff seemed to fit the system fine for a couple of seasons then when we made adjustments to the system he became very average at best. It was like McVay wanted him to do things that he was just not good at and we things became tense the relationship went sour to the point of no return.
What is clear is that Goff had trouble being successful with the changes McVay was making to the offense. He couldn't go where McVay wanted to go. What I think is also clear is how important is is to know the strengths of your QB and to design the offense around making the QB successful. This is what has happened in Detroit and now Goff is a upper echelon level QB again.
I am not sure what lessons were learned here but the end results were not good. We had to sell low on Goff making the cost to acquire Stafford very high. It worked out Okay we won a Super Bowl but still I think there are things we could have done much better.
