So, where are Rams not getting required results?
In no particular order:
Game planning and play calling (cough, cough)
TE corps
Running game (top 2 items could help with this)
Edge opposite Young
Run D (both DL and LB’s)
CB
ST (other than Evans, and he has room for improvement)
There are other things but the above 7 are the biggest, I think.
So, what should McVay do?
Simple.
He needs to self scout these 7 areas during the bye and make necessary adjustments just short of firing the assistant coaches involved this season. All options should be on the table in all 7 areas because clearly the status quo ain’t working.
McVay should start with himself. Frankly, I think this O would be better if McVay gave up his play calling duties for the rest of the damned season. He’s become irrational and too predictable by far. I don’t know if he’s capable of doing that, but that would be a huge step in the right direction.
Obviously, Rams should re-examine every single facet of those other areas of weakness and do some outside-the-box thinking to hopefully right the ship.
Playoffs may no longer be realistic but respectability certainly is. Rams can and should do a lot better.
Question is, can and will McVay do it? We’ll see…
