Though history suggests that McVay likes the "Rudy" type for backup QB, I think that this year is a little different in that both he and the organization view the current 2023 campaign as a glorified throwaway season that is primarily geared towards identifying young players who are solid back-ups and/or fringe starters.
The ONLY deviation from this I've seen thus far is their trade for Dotson which required some (though not a lot of) draft capital. But it seems clear that there's an intention to re-sign him.
Outside of that, the team is going to stick with the plan. So, if Stafford were to miss any time...so be it.
It's not like they anticipated making any noise this year anyway and sticking the likes of Rypien or "Bottoms-up" Bennett under center would only increase their draft capital. The ONLY downside would be an inability to evaluate their offensive talent that needs a QB. But both Kyren Williams and Puka Natua have already shown their value.
