Trading for a pick would not be advantageous to us. TIwas thinking of a trade package (Van and a mid or lower round pick) for a developmental player with promise at a position of need.
Brian Burns for Van and our #1? That's further outside the box than I was thinking, Alyo - and more Snead-like. Given Burns' value I'd throw in a mid-round position swap as well, or maybe a future higher pick, whatever.
Then we'd have to pay him, but he'd be worth it. Burns knows his worth but is a team player.
After AD's retirement (projected post-'24) he and Young would still be around and be a force - and with a plugged-up middle based around Turner and maybe some Browns we'd have a formitable D front, a young secondary still on first contracts, and Ernest Jones.
I'd much, much rather go that direction than take out a second mortgage to pay a running back.
