First, not switching Boom to LT was costly - but I understand the logic, based on last year's disasters, of only making one OL substitution at a time. Boom was playing well at RG and pulling him from that spot would have jeopradized that side.
What I find utterly perplexing is why he didn't automatically send in a TE to help on Thomas' side - and why, after that, he didn't call a couple of run plays or quick openers to let this combination get their feet wet. Look at the opposition: They were facing a formitable rush from that side. Asking Thomas to handle it alone, coming in cold off the bench and "right now" disregarded the situation.
Result: Stafford gets mauled in the ensuing situation.
Situational awareness... in armed combat, football, business, traffic, or relationships - important.
