I try to remember that we don;t win with the bottom of our roster.
We win with Stafford, Kupp, and AD. That's the final drive of the super bowl.
All were hurt last year. Stafford was hurt in camp. Akers had his head not on straight. Our O line was devastated.
We come into this year and I think we're a 7 to 9 win team that competes in almost all losses.
We have made decisions to make a run in 24. Whether that is for the superbowl or Drake Maye (I'll keep pushing him over Caleb) will likely depend on injuries and a few good or bad bounces.
If not I'm still likely going to want to draft Pennix or Riley Leonard.
So ... we're watching a very methodical set of movements ... normally we'd expect excitement and ferocity to get the perfectly rounded out roster.
We're not seeing that this year because, quite simply ... "we're just gonna give these boys a year to develop." No vet signing to put Hoecht or the kid on the bench. Cut Copeland. Cut a 3rd rounder knowing another redshirt year is pointless.
No second hand OLT ... AJ sinks or gets drafted over next year. Jefferson functions as a #2 or walks. Akers runs on fire or walks.
BB3 can either play nose or not. If not Kobie Turner had the #1 grade in college football against the run. He weighs more than 288 now. If we are getting killed in that one area? There are some old space eaters that might come in for a final ride.
At TE we are really well set up. We have two last year of contract guys, one may position himself for a future here, but our 4th is a very promising rookie.
E Johnson is going to show how well he can run a young defense.
Can THT play outside? How good is Durant? Is Witherspoon for real?
And most importantly ... who are the hungry SOBs that are going to run with us in the future.
I like being an underdog.
Also, the top end of the OT group next year is good. If we need to replace Jackson, we will be able to. Same with the DE group, though they're a bit big ...
Also, if the Bengals short arm Tee Higgins I want to poach him with the 65 million in cap space we have while we spend another 20 on Chase Young if he's healthy.
