Gaines didn't start a single game his first 2 seasons and then blossomed in year 3. As 4th round pick in 2019 it took him 2 years to find his way to the starting DL.
The Rams, as they tend to do, drafted Gaines' eventual replacement a couple years before they needed him. They spent those two years preparing for what they anticipated would be Gaines' departure in FA after the 2022 season.
Bobby Brown III, also a 4th round pick (2021), is poised to follow in Gaines' footsteps. BB3 had 1 start in his first 2 years and at 6'4", 324 lbs actually has a more prototypical build for the NT position (compared to Gaines at 6'1", 313).
Obviously nothing is guaranteed, but don't go to sleep on BB3 quite yet.
This could be BB3's time to shine if he can follow in the same footsteps as Gaines did and I am hoping that is exactly what happens.
I do see us using a lot of rotation on the DL this year and most likely in the secondary too due to all the new kids. Whoever steps up should obviously get more snaps than the others.
As I said before, I hope Morris takes the training wheels off these young kids and really let them play on instinct and talent. Throw them in the pool and see who sinks and see who swims!
IMO, "babying" them or being "afraid" to let them play in anything other than a prevent defense would be a waste of talent and a waste of time.
If there was ever an ok time for a "scheme adjustment" it's now during a rebuilding year where judging talent will be essential on how fast we can rebuild this thing!
#HelmetHornsMatter
“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.
“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
