Hey JY53
Could you see a safety instead of a coverage LB, like maybe a Quindell Johnson or Jason Taylor? Sort of a Taylor Rapp replacement instead of Travis Howard or Kenny Young, as you pointed out.
I think what you said makes a lot of sense, depending on the players we have and how they best fit.
I think that could happen...the use of a moneybacker - a safety/LBer hybrid rather than 2 LBers.
You lose some in run stopping (size) but gain in coverage.
Rams run a base 3-4, in it they use 2 ILBers
Buy they more often run a 5-1 with 1 ILBer
In Nickle the run a 4-2 with two ILBer--that is where most teams are--nickel is more common
and in that package one linebacker and one safety is perfectly acceptable
And it doesn't always have to be that..there were times Hollins was the money backer--he was usually
an outside linebacker but in certain passing situations he'd be an inside linebacker and rush.
On rare occasions Rams run a 4-1 with 1 Lber and 6 DBs
but in the 4-2 you can use dime personnel and play nickel
That is my guess---that 2 LBers won't be on the field all that much---unless
someone steps up--
