Re: I don’t really think that the anti-Akers sentiment is fully justified…

I say let’s give Akers the benefit of the doubt here. He might just have himself a helluva season for us, in which case our O has a chance to thrive. If so, it might even be smart to exercise that RFA option for 2024. If not, then just let him walk.

If Akers has 2 good years, and we don’t extend him, he might fetch a decent comp pick.

In short, Rams have a free roll with Akers in 2023. Let’s give him a chance.

Isn't the new unwritten rule to "never sign a RB to a second contract"?

Second unwritten rule: "Never judge\value a player by his contract year".

There is no way I resign Akers regardless of how well he plays. In fact the better he plays, the less the odds are we do resign him because he will want big $$$ anyway.

I give him all the credit in the world for continuing to play hard during a lost season as well as his "dedication" to return from the injury. He deserves that.

Not many RB's come back from that injury, I get that, but I really didn't think Akers was anything "special" before the injury. I think we can do just as good or better than Akers with a draft pick, FA or UDFA after this year and financially it would fit our rebuilding plan better than resigning an aging RB who already had a bad injury.

IMO, resigning Akers would be a mistake for several reasons but I do see him giving it his all this year to try and cash in on a contract.

#HelmetHornsMatter

“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.

“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
