I see where you're coming from, and that Akers has a bad "we not me" track record just less than a year ago. The sentence you quoted was maybe a McVay management classic. However, McVay did point out that Alers has already taken on a leadership role, at least in the RB room. He also says that he has a charisma that people are drawn to.
He certainly has a short rope, but the "end of last year" version of Akers would do wonders for the Rams this year.
