He rehabbed from an Achilles injury in record time. That doesn’t happen without monumental effort 24/7. Practically unheard of dedication, tbh.
He has a track record of producing behind inferior OL’s. That too takes dedication.
He got frustrated in early 2021. Well, who didn’t? That whole season was a cluster**** from the jump. From McVay to the waterboy.
Don’t know if coach Samples was the problem or if the problem was more complex. But I do know that after Henderson was offloaded and coach Samples was ‘allowed’ to depart that Akers and McVay rebuilt their relationship and Akers kicked butt in those last 5 games.
I say let’s give Akers the benefit of the doubt here. He might just have himself a helluva season for us, in which case our O has a chance to thrive. If so, it might even be smart to exercise that RFA option for 2024. If not, then just let him walk.
If Akers has 2 good years, and we don’t extend him, he might fetch a decent comp pick.
In short, Rams have a free roll with Akers in 2023. Let’s give him a chance.
