...from the outside looking in I don't really blame him having that assessment. The starting 5 he lists has a LT coming off an Achilles tear, a rookie LG, a center that has missed 34 of their last 57 regular season games, and basically a rookie RG. The only steady presence where you know what you have is Havenstein. You're not going to rank that unit very high...
Now of course personally I think Jackson will be the LT (and be good), Avila will be solid from the get-go and that Shelton is more likely to be the starting center.
The OL is very much a work in progress. I like the makeup overall of their 10 likely roster candidates. But there will be a lot to figure out along the way and some growth that has to happen.
I also like the new OL coach Wendell quite a bit and think he'll have a positive impact.
I stand by my statement that a 30th ranking is absurd.
We agree on many things re this OL.
Yeah, I think Jackson will be starting LOT.
Avila is most likely to start at LG although he would be a huge upgrade at OC.
Shelton will start at OC either on opening day or when (not if) Allen is injured.
RG is a tossup but the options all look pretty darned good in Bruss, Anchrum, or McClendon.
Hav is a lock at RT with Arcuri or McClendon backing him up.
Rest of the backups look good and the competition will be intense for the last 2 positions.
I agree with you that coach Wendell seems like a big upgrade over Carberry.
I just can’t reconcile the above with a 30th ranking projection. I just can’t…
