I don't calculate my own cap space: I rely on overthecap.com (and I've read that many NFL teams do, too).

But if we want to check their work we can.

If we go here [overthecap.com] we can see the cap hits for all 44 guys on the roster is $142.6M. (It says 'Top 51: $142,565,804' but the Rams don't have 51 players yet ...)

We can see that they are carrying $74.2M in dead money.

And with a cap of $224.8M we can then do the math: $224.8M - $142.6M - $74.2M = $8M (It's not the exact number but I did some rounding. Close enough for government work, anyway ...)
