They spun it to get him all bought in on it. But the truth is the slot is where you put your slow cover guy who has good physicality. They were stashing him at times there but calling it something else. Other times they were just cashing in on his physicality to supplement the run game, which was not a bad approach given it is such a strength of his.
But if he was still a shutdown corner they would have kept him outside the hash. You don't pay a slot corner what they were paying Ramsey. Hence the move.
Now it is possible some of that was him just being content and lazy. That maybe he comes in for Miami now with a chip on his shoulder and ready to compete. But I suspect he's going to get torched more this season and the Rams making that move will be looked at differently over time in the media.
We had plenty of "slow cover guys" on the defense last year that could have played that "star" position. IMO, we made our defense weaker by using Ramsey to cover RB's, TE's, and WR's 3+4.
I also think Ramsey has "lost a step" but even having lost a step, he was still the #1 CB on our team by far. I guess it really doesn't matter though because we still only one 5 games with Ramsey at the Star.
How many of those 5 wins were due to Ramsey playing in the "Star" position? I am thinking 0.
I also see him having a "chip" in Miami but also still getting beat now and then.
I wonder if Miami plays Ramsey in the Star as much as we did since he has "lost a step". If your analogy is correct, I would assume they will play him there a lot too. I guess we'll see.
#HelmetHornsMatter
“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.
“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
