due to the fact the chiefs seem to run the exact same play as the previous TD, bu to the other side of field. It got the exact same reaction from the DB covering the motion WR, they just sprinted off across, not watching for the same pivot back to the outside.
They were saying about the Eagles Tendencies, so I guess Reed etal had seen this reaction from the Eagles DB's before
watch the two touchdowns, but also watch the previous play on each of them
both times there was motion and the Eagles used their "rules". In coverage it is more than just zone or man - - there are coverages rules, and one of them is how you handle motion if it is man coverage. Do you call off the man coverage and check to zone? Do you exchange responsibilities? It is an if-then proposition
So, Chiefs motion, Eagles exchange responsibilites, the man guarding the move (motion guy) does not follow, he plays the free safety and the free safety "follows" and takes the motion guy.
So, Reid knows how to beat that, he shows motion (this time from opposite side) and during the exchange of respnsibilites, the CB going to the FS sopt the move guy reverses and goes to the pylon and is wide open.
Next time, Reid does motion...and the Eagles stay with that rule--exchange roles, do not follow, nor to the check to zone...they stay man and stwitch
Next play, motion from opposite side, Eagles stay with the rule---and the move guy again reverses to the pylon and easy touchdown.
Everyone loves aggressive man coverage...and it looks tough, it does not look soft.
But every type of coverage has strengths and weaknesses.
All year Eagles played Fangio-type scheme, Eagles fans hated it--it was soft, and I showed stills of NFCCG vs SF--they play a lot of off.
In Super Bowl, only one series in game did they play off. One. Mostly they were press looks and played man. And they gave up some stuff.
Weaknesses in man---turn you back and QWb will run. Twice Mahomes ran for key big gainers...and got Chiefs in deep in red zone.
Man--when you get run off, and they check down, you have to run downhill and make tackles, and it is hard to make tackles from depth
on NFl runners---Greg Olsen mentioned it...
Another weakness is what was just discussed, motion, and how easy it is to cause a defense to break their "rules"
Another is crossing routes or "rub" routes---pick plays---they can beat man coverage
Another weakness is NFL receivers as just good. They can make plays even when covered. Or drag a flag.
Watch the game everyone---Eagles got hurt most when they played man...a 3 TDs were man. The holding call (poor call IMO) was man. The Mahomes
scrambles that were killers were man. A missed tackle on pass to flat - man.
Mahomes is smart. When they see man, they run man beaters,
When they see zone, they check to zone beaters.
