2019 was his first season as a starter though. Essentially a rookie. It's not unusual for linemen to stumble early on. As for him being average, I think you're right. But I think it's virtually impossible to have pro bowlers at every level and center is the position that's least important imo. Or maybe it's guard. But you see what I'm saying. If Allen is the worst player on the line then I think we're okay. But I wouldn't put a ton of faith in it.
Fair enough, that's true.
So much of the the OL is a stack of Dominos. Whitworth played well, so Edwards played well, which helped Allen, who was flanked by Corbett. etc.
Last year Noteboom was next to Edwards, Edwards wasn't playing as well, which made Allen look bad next to whoever was the RG.
Now that you make me think about it, better play at LG would help both the OC & LT. Edwards is a decent player but he can't hold his ground against stronger DT's. I do think, hope, we can do better at OC without breaking the bank.
Yeah an upgrade anywhere on the interior would do wonders. At least one.
