I believe the true eye for defensive talent lay with Jeff Fisher, the tricks he used what he would look for and evaluate was best for the Rams when he was here. After he was fired Snead amd his staff retained enough of that knowledge to approximate the Fisher model the first few years but our late in the draft db homeruns has been on the decline since his departure. Since the Fisher magic recipe for evaluation is gone (Fisher was in the league too long to be bad at everything, he didn't know offense but he had an eye for defensive talent) they rely more on analytics and it hasn't served them nearly as well. Also I pro personnel guy is also in Detroit now so that can't help.
Ya, I think with all the Fish negativity that materializes here from time to time, we forget the things he was actually good at. We always had good DB drafting and development, and would do the same on the defensive line as well. Refs hated us (the feelings mutual), but we always played D with an edge, and were nobody's punks. His team O wanted to make me gouge my eyes out, but I sure miss his development on D.
