Excellent article on his ‘genius’ methods in the Athletic. Hard to argue with the results.
Hope McVay sees the article.
Hint: Daboll didn’t hire a lot of ‘friends’.
Lets see Daboll's coaching tree and results after 5 years. You think he will have 4 head coaches (LeFluer, Staley, Taylor & O'Connell).
Others of his prior hires - Raheem Morris, Evero are in line for possible HC Positions.
Now imagine his staff wasn't raided.
How good would his staff be?
Even those that poo poo the Rams scouting department, by my own vision I see lots of ex rams from Darious Williams, Morgan Fox, SJD, Gerald Everett, John Johnson, Austin Corbett, Josh Reynolds, Obo, Ebukam and countless others that rolled through and are not with the team essentially because of the Salary Cap not because of evaluation errors.
This guy knows what he is doing.
McVay had a helluva first 5 years, stlramz. No doubt about it. Was a great ride for all of us.
But I suspect that he would like a do-over on several of his assistant hires (and their assignments) of last year. Among many other things. Cough, cough…
Everybody is saying that substantial coaching changes are expected for the Rams this offseason. Two assistants are already gone.I don’t see the harm of pointing that out and suggesting that McVay research how Daboll did it which created a remarkable one year turnaround.
For the record, I love Daboll. Looks like a slob, totally not the look of an NFL head coach and he's done very well to turn that franchise around. I just differ as to who needs to look at who. McVay is the standard. Daboll may end up emulating McVay's success but we won't know for a half of a decade and I would take wagers against it.
Also, as McVay says continually, "I'm a fan of coaches", so I doubt he is overlooking any staff or any person. The notion that he needs to look at Daboll for how "to do it" to me is a touch disrespectful to McVay though I know you didn't mean it that way.
As far as his assistants, if he had all the Bills on this staff (Parcells, Cohwer, Belicheck and Walsh), I doubt they would have overcome the shitshow of injuries we had this year to really make any noise.
