Top 10? are you kidding me?
Lets look at one of those teams that is right there: the Steelers.
They may have that formula down as much as anyone but the top salary of Big Ben with a $23,200 million cap hit in 2018 is much more then even the second highest at a cap hit of $14,544 million for Bell. Go down to #6 and you have LB Shazier with a cap hit of $8,718 million. The 10th highest cap hit is a mere $5,432 million for DE Tuitt.
The tenth salary is less than a quarter of the 1st. The second salary is less then 2/3rds of the 1st. In other words there is a big drop off.
To simply say the formula is paying your top players 60% without taking into account spread, position, etc. is insane. One of the best players we have is our punter, should he be in the equation for top ten pay? If we paid Donald the Big Ben money, would Goff have to take Bell money? and Gurley have to take even less? See you get one major piece wrong and there is a domino affect.
