. AD hadn't been a DE either...
But AD has still never been a DE.
And in the item that I was concerned about, Donald being a 10-sack and 10-stuff guy, he DID SUFFER. And that was, IMO, scheme related. So, it's kind of a reach to say I was wrong about Donald. I was right on the money.
As far as Suh, he couldn't come in and play DT in a 3-4, unless you want to move Donald to DE or NT and that would be stupid. So, Suh would have to play over a tackle rather than a guard, something he has never done. Or he'd have to play nose tackle, which he has never done.
With Donald, as I posted before Wade was actually hired I posted about that Donald would still be playing 3-tech even in a one-gap 3-4 so it was not a position change.
So, here is a cliche, it's apples and oranges.
Donald was a 3-tech in old defense, was a 3-tech in new defense—no position change
Suh is a DT now and if he came here he would not be a DT, he'd be a DE or a DT—those are position changes by and large
Could I be wrong? Sure. Was I wrong about Donald? No. And Donald in the future could be a 10-sack 10-stuff guy, but as I said the subtleties sometimes can hinder that. It does not hinder the pass rush because the nickel is the same, which is why Donald's pass rush was the same, but in terms of the run defense, which is when we are in the one-gap 3-4 his big play total was down.
Understand?
