I understand the skepticism. I have some too although I’m choosing to be hopeful and optimistic. I think there is a great deal of uncertainty. IMO, the lack of production is a result of a healthy dose of coaching/scheme and his limitations. If I had to guess I’d say 50/50.
But I don’t see his limitations as being in the athletic, mental, or motivation department I see them as being in the traditional WR skillset department.
When he was drafted he was very raw at WR skills such as route running. It doesn’t matter how fast you are, if you can’t create separation you won’t have much success especially given his size.
It’s been reported over the last couple of years that he had been working on those skills and had improved. The current coaches (I recall Matt LaFleur mentioning this for sure) have mentioned that they see him as having improved or possessing that skillset.
If so, with a better scheme we should see him breakout. If he still can’t run routes or create separation, a new scheme will help some but not enough to make a huge impact.
Afterall didn't everybody laud Groh as being a great signing?
How many coaches does it take to screw in a light bulb?
