So, this writer says, "If the Rams have to dip into the second string on Monday night, things could get ugly and fast." Doesn't he mean third string, and what does he mean "if" we have to dip that deep. We're there. Shelton moves to center - Anchrum = second string. Anchrum out, Shelton back to guard (which I doubt) Kolone at C = third string. Shelton stays at center, Evansby mtramfan - RamsFootballFans.com
Russ does look "off" - coaching could have something to do with it. He was expected to be the savior for an offense that didn't have the tools. Hackett doesn't have Adams and Rodgers with him in Denver; Wilson doesn't have Lockett and Metcalf. I wonder if the system hasn't gelled yet, whether players are buying in and committing, what the tenor of the lockerroom is.by mtramfan - RamsFootballFans.com
... I'm worried about Stafford's well-being behind a riddled offensive line with some dirty cheap-shot-coached injury-motivated goons (despitr their raw football amility - I'm thinking Warner specifically, and their DC) coming his way. Game-wise, beyond that: We'll ned to win the turnover battle and capitalize on those takeaways to win. We'll need to win the TOP stat, or come close - never easby mtramfan - RamsFootballFans.com
He's learning and getting into NFL football physical condition. It all takes time. We'll see what his ceiling is - and I'm hoping he can strengthen well beyond the point of simply emaining injury-free and show us what the coaches see in him before the season ends.by mtramfan - RamsFootballFans.com
Today's sportswriters are for the most part poorly schooled hacks who don't know their craft or their subject as well as they should. There is a difference between writing that has substance and writing that simply occupies space. This article, like many, has too much chaff, too little wheat.by mtramfan - RamsFootballFans.com
I've said it before JY43, thanks again and again.by mtramfan - RamsFootballFans.com
He's a better athlete than Refrigerator Perry was and would be a load to stop. Fake handoff and toss about the third or fourth time we see him as a RB, and a play where he just pushes Haverstein (our best road grader) forward. Or maybe play Gaines as RG beside Havs. Straight-agead old-school hit-shove-and-grunt blocking with rest of OL pulling and coming in behind to shover the pile forward.by mtramfan - RamsFootballFans.com
... , and quite another to see it broken down by somebody who knows what they're looking at. I remember Lorenzo Neal going through the hole, or making one, and thumping the first guy he met - and LaDanian Tomlinson getting past the first and into a disrupted second level from there. New coach, we don'need no stinkin' blockin' back, send LT into the semi-gaps between the tackles, beat his legsby mtramfan - RamsFootballFans.com

... he's right, isn't he? He just has brass enuf to say it. And, it isn't coming from a sour grapes - wannbe. Shady put up some big numbers during a potential HOF-worthy career and was fun to watch. When Kyler has achieved as much, let him answer back. Hey - I LOOK FOR your posts to see if I'm interested in what's being shared from other sources. That said, I don't read al;l of them - only about 856%. :ROTFby mtramfan - RamsFootballFans.com
Yes you should. As stated in an earlier post, I don't read all of them - only about 85% or so. :teeth I pick and choose. Without choices I can't. Thank you for adding fresh blood to our discussions here.by mtramfan - RamsFootballFans.com

I'll take Tuvon or Tatu. Ot ToTo. Shake 'em up in a bag, pull one out. Seriously, I'd take another guy who runs a 4.6 but has burst once he gets started, can run routes, had hands, and can be coached up. And stands about six feet tall and weighs around 200 for both of them and a ham sandwich - and a pickle. But if I must... Maybe if the balls were named Joey and Von... :laughing:thumbsup:beercan Seriously, I learned about our DC and his scheme from JY43s responses to Oldnotdead. This post, behind the humor, attests to that. Had the Oldnotdead post not been here for JY43 to react to... Do I make my point?by mtramfan - RamsFootballFans.com
OK... I've read about half the posts in this thread, glanced through the oithers. I'm not finding fault with anybody's point of view - and agree wholeheartedly that this is the best Rams board around. Period. That said, I don't read every post or follow every thread. I pick and choose. Doesn't everybody? Some of the people that post on other boards used to be here. Did they leave when constantby mtramfan - RamsFootballFans.com
Simply put, Goff has the personal tools to do better when less is expected of him. We saw that ceiling when he was with the Rams.by mtramfan - RamsFootballFans.com
Question (and how do we know?) is what are the playcalls? Is AR the primary target on those early downs where he records catches, and then is the playcaller making familiar targets, i.e. Kupp, Higbee, the receiver the play is designed to go to? Or is Stafford going through his reads and then coming back to Kupp? I think it's the former. I think it's playcalling more than QB choice as the gameby mtramfan - RamsFootballFans.com
That was me, at least a couple of times... You show Donald going across and in, Gaines looping outside. Good idea, and Gaines is surprisingly quick. 'd rather see Donald looping outside of Gaines going across and in, but whatever - maybe they do that too and I'm missing it... I used to watch Mertlin and Deacon do this sort of thing all the time. They'd loop, or switch places before theby mtramfan - RamsFootballFans.com

... is how often (or seldom) AR is the #1 in Stafford's reads? My suspicion is that the ball is supposed to go to Kupp quite often, particularly late in the game, and if he's not free (or if Stafford doesn't think he will be, or runs out of time, etc.) that Stafford then goes through his progression. From what little I've seen and read it appears that AR is the #1 early in the game more ofby mtramfan - RamsFootballFans.com
Maybe he pulled it extending his leg and getting it caught/pulled when he tripped Wilson. It'd be poetic justice, wouldn't it? :yesby mtramfan - RamsFootballFans.com
Between the two of you... I get the idea - but not without your contributions. I now have a better idea of why re: the shift to what looks like "soft" zone defenses, and wonder: What happens next? If I were a meddlesome owner I might be pressuring my personnel guy to find me a big, hardnosed, running back - maybe not a Derrick Henry clone, but more of a Steven Jackson or Marshaby mtramfan - RamsFootballFans.com
JY53, I've learned a ton from you. When I've asked questions, you've answered them. Thanks for what I've learned personally, and for what you bring to the board. As I read through this thread I was thinking: A night-and-day difference between last year's late season and playoff D and this year so far was the presence of Von Miller. He freed Donald, whose stats improved immediately. You can't dby mtramfan - RamsFootballFans.com
