I know they said they wanted him back. They probably made some offer based on what they felt he was worth. Certainly less than the tag number but are there any reports about what was actually offered?by hammer - RamsFootballFans.com
i suppose that if they can’t get Donald signed before 2019 that they franchise him and resign SUH to a three year contract knowing they are going to loose Donald.by hammer - RamsFootballFans.com
I have never seen or heard of any offer made by them. Anyone know what if any offfer was made?by hammer - RamsFootballFans.com
ASSUMING a team will make a good pick is fallacy. It in no way demonstrates what a crap shoot drafting can be. Look at historical picks taken at any point in the draft and then considering how those picks did is a valid way of looking at probability of success in drafting based on historical data. We can all agree that in any given year there are better players who were availble at pick 23 butby hammer - RamsFootballFans.com
I agree with this post. There is a point where it is beneficial to both the team and the player and that is the amount the contract offer should be. I want Donald to be a Ram long term; but, I’m a Ram fan first and foremost. So, if keeping Donald means breaking the bank or compromising the team more than benefiting it, then don’t do it. I agree completely. Hard to fault the QB behind the number one offense. Watkins was not franchised for a reason. I would add I am weary hearing that “he’s not a true #1”. Cooks has been far more productive over his career than Watkins. Watkins being a “number 1” is still based on potential, potential he has not lived up to. The reports that the Rams tried to trade with New Orleans to get Cooks says a lot about him and McVay. New England outbid them and he had another successful year. The Rams then traded for Watkins. Watkins in his show me year was inconsistent, but a talent who was going to get paid. How hard the Rams actually tried to resign him, Idk. NO on Dez. He was not running crisp routes, looked lazy and played half hearted. McVay wants very good route runners and effort. I don’t see him as someone that McVay wants or the Rams need. Just go with the young guys drafted last year. The tightened postion needs to contribute more in the Red Zone.by hammer - RamsFootballFans.com

A great evaluator of talent from both the draft and free agents and/or not so great when it comes to evaluating Rams players and choosing who to retain? Maybe all that direct contact with the players skews his judgement? I am at this point however certain that its late and this topic has now been talked into circles? to draft Kupp, sign Woods and trade for Watkins. (Something Fisher would not have done or if he did he wouldn’t know how to use them. Snead and Demoff do nothing to the personnel without consulting the head coach first. That includes extending players who failed to perform and yes some of that has occurred under McVay (hindsight is 20/20). I pull for virtually every ExRam. I will pull for Watkins too, except when it’s against the Rams. But how each player performs next year will prove nothing as it relates to the decisions made by the Rams. Either could have a monster year, poor year or first play season ending injury. It proves nothing about decisions made. The real test is how the RAMs do as a TEAM next year (more wins or nby hammer - RamsFootballFans.com
Kupp was drafted and Woods was signed by the McVay regime. I like the direction and am glad it has varied from the historical trend. But on the negative side it was the McVay regime that spent a good player and high draft pick on Watkins. His production didn’t justify a huge crippling long term contract that it would have taken to outbid KC. The offense may or may not return to its lofty 2017by hammer - RamsFootballFans.com
This article is typical fan based journalism, ra, ra, the Rams fans and team are so sad they lost out on Watkins. It makes a baseless attempt to justify the cost of a high priced free agent. A talented one who has really never lived up to the hype. He may yet live up to it in Kansas City, but the article is shallow at best. I’m agree with 43 on this. I see it much the same way. Keep control without breaking the bank, but at some point that won’t be feasible. If he is strung along I wouldn’t just let him walk, I’d tag him and trade him. I suspect he would bring great draft capital back to the team. I believe if they don’t tag him and he signs elsewhere for a huge amount that they would get a very high compensatory pick. Many posters have made predictions on this site, for the most part I have refrained. Now, for the sake of some dialogue and after much consternation I shall. You may think it bold (or foolish), but it seems very reasonable to me. Even though we don’t know who will replace Watkins yet, that player or players’ production will be equal to or greater than his 2017 yardage production. Many may pby hammer - RamsFootballFans.com

I would add to those, a failure to come from behind on the final drive of a game for a win. I see this as a major hurdle for this team. They were close a few times, but fail short on each. For Goff to be considered elite this issue needs addressed. I put some of the blame for this on McVay’s play calling; however several catchable passes were dropped.by hammer - RamsFootballFans.com
A very solid post Rams43! Certainly that is why some of his contract is incentive based. I’m glad that the Rams got the corners they did and didn’t have to take a chance with Sherman. Since the 49ers tried to get Talib and failed they had to go with the riskier player.by hammer - RamsFootballFans.com

I agree Woods was a great find by Mcvay, The Rams evaluated Woods and saw a player that fit the scheme, and even though the statistics weren't there, they signed him. Those same evaluators have had a close look at Watkins over this last year in their system. They know what he can do, know his ceiling and what he added to that offense. I’m confident they know his true value to the TEAM. At this pby hammer - RamsFootballFans.com

Career statstics are often a better indication of what we may expect a player to do going forward. Certainly agents will negotiate for money based on them. But I must say they are not overly impressive for a “True 1”, then again he played for Buffalo. McVay’s offense spread the ball around. I don’t think that’s going to change. So it is hard to evaluate him on just statstics. There is valueby hammer - RamsFootballFans.com
