Would you like to have Amendola or Ricky Proehl on your team? I would. But not because they are stars or game breakers or can carry a team. It's because they are reliable, steady, smart, good route runners and can complement the other pieces of an offense. I think Wood falls in there (not because his game is the same, but because his effect can be the same). The Rams are NOT going to findby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
There is not a doubt in my mind that the top tier FAs not only went where the money is, but also they went to teams who were likely playoff contenders. So the sad-sack Rams with a baby-faced HC and a new coaching staff and a losing record going back to before the great financial crash don't exactly have the pull for the top guys. And they don't have San Fran's money to throw around. So howby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Here's an article from ESPN that directly quotes McVay: "That's something that we're evaluating right now," new Rams head coach Sean McVay said about finding a starting center. "There are some guys on the roster that you feel can kind of play inside and play at that center position.” McVay added that the Rams will look to "cross-train" some of their guards at centerby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Pryor is risky. New at the position. One good year. I'd like to have him but I'll bet he costs as much or more than Garcon. Bennett not only adds to firepower, he is a terrific inline blocker from the TE position. He and Higbee would be a good 1-2 punch at TE. And he'll probably be 60% of the cost of Pryor. Rams need to go to the draft for any more WR's. But, you never know if theby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
I believe the problem is that the Rams cannot get TruJ to sign for something like you are suggesting. That is the entire issue. They have been trying for 2 years to get him signed long term. Why would he sign somewhere else for the same or less than the Rams would pay him?by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Mangold, yes, but he has an ankle injury. Don't know that anyone else would help much. I still think the Rams are thinking of converting another Oline guy into a Center.by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Floyd, to me, is a bigger and somewhat better Quick. Not explosive, but more refined. Has had some awfully good training with the Cards. If he could be picked up for 2 or 3 years at $2.5 mil per year, he would be worth having.by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
The good news is that the Rams seem to have acquired their targets. The other good news is that some guys that could really help the Rams have not been signed. Clearly the Rams are going to stay put at Guard. But....with the release of Barnes they MUST be looking at Centers. The only problem with Mangold is that he had a foot injury and who knows how that might go. It's not just an issueby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
It could be that Gruden raved about him to McVay and McVay looks at him in the same way. Either way, I like the signing provided it's cheap. I liked Murray coming out. He's a gamer.by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Quinn is not a brawler. He uses his athleticism to win. Going up mano e mano against 325 lb. LTs has taken its toll. I think from OLB he will come from different angles and not have to rush the traditional way a 4-3 DE does by "bending" around the corner. And, he is sure going to make it tough to run his direction what with a DT at end and him behind him. Lotta beef.by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
For one thing, why would TruJ give up $17 mil guaranteed for one season! But the other is that I think the Rams have greatly over valued him. He is a good corner. But he is not elite. And I suspect that the Rams have a double problem: 1) they probably want either a starting player or they want a 2nd round pick in return, and 2) clearly whatever TruJ has been demanding for a contract the Rams (by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
He is awfully athletic. I would think that it is possible that he could fill the same role as Ware did. But, perhaps there is someone available for less money that fills the role better. Who that might be, I don't know. Not sure what the Rams could get for Quinn. Maybe a high 2nd rounder since he is a Superstar when healthy. Might the Rams just go for a salary dump if they don't thinkby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Hard worker. But undersized for a blocking TE, and too slow, no quickness, and poor hands for a receiving TE. Now try to get Bennett for a decent price ($6 mil?) and the Rams will also have improved their Oline as Bennett can handle most DEs pretty well.by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
I kind of think this is where it's going.by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Rams moved a young OG to Center. In fact, I've said for some time that I think Saffold ought to be tried there. He's smart, big, and moves well for a guy his size.by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
The thing is that the Rams FO clearly decided that they would let the legal process play out on this rather than to make a PR move. After all, all they had to do was nothing and the young man is gone.by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Really like that young man. Plays hard, good 3rd down back. Strong and good speed. Interesting on what they decide with GZ.by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
I'd sure love it if the Rams could pick up Mangold. He and Whitworth together would vastly upgrade this oline. Then add Bennett and we'd have not only one of the better BIG blocking TEs in the league, but a reliable pass catcher as well. Go with the WRs we have plus Woods plus the draft if this scenario could happen. Frankly, I think Spruce is going to turn out to be a go-to guy. It wby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
First, he is far more than a scrub player. He is a good player. Second, being accused of something is not the same thing as being proved guilty. Third, a goodly percentage of the time, a female will drop charges in matters like this (for all sorts of reasons that make the cops nuts) after the tumult has died down. So this thing could go most any direction. And there is no point jettisoningby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Teams don't give up a high draft pick AND pay big bucks. They can pick up a good CB for NO draft pick and high bucks through FA. Rarely, admittedly, it does happen. But it is for an impact player with Pro Bowl and/or Superstar status. Tru J doesn't even come close. So, if the Rams would have been happy with a 3rd round pick for Tru J, they just could have not Franchised him, lost him, and pby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
It doesn't make any sense to me. I just don't see a play here. I still think for the Rams this had as much to do with letting TruJ find the real market as anything. I think they'd prefer to keep him. So I don't expect the Rams to get an offer that makes it worth their while, unless they have a replace FA CB in their crosshairs for less money that they like better. But, who the heck knows.by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Of course, the issue is going to be if he is good enough to start at LG. I doubt it'll be handed to him. But he's likely to be starting LG, back up LT.by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Point is: comparing FA dollars to FA dollars only means something when you look at what the roster under contract currently is. The other thing to consider is that there IS no more expensive way to fill out a roster than through FA. You do NOT get good value in general unless you get a lower tier guy to perform well, or an older vet at good price who has a good year or two left.by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
The only measure of where a team stands for FA is not only the treasure chest of dollars, but also of how many players that team already has under contract. So if a team has 50 players under contract and $25 mil in cap space, that is not the same as a team who has 40 players under contract and $40 mil in cap space. I believe the Rams have something like 51 players under contract, so the capby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
I can't think if any 1st rounders given up for anything other than a QB.....and not lately...except for one. I know of the 2nd rounder that Arizona gave to the Pats for the edge rusher. But, they got him with a year left on his rookie contract so he was cheap. I know that the Rams paid very little for Barron (wasn't it a 4th and a 6th?). For a former 7th overall pick? And that included geby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Look. No one here is making it up that the news is that he is being shopped. The dude has signed his Franchise offer and yet the Rams are shopping him. So the speculation is why and what their motive might be. And assuming its true, what could they hope to get. So why are the Rams now trying to trade him knowing darn well they're not going get some wonderful haul of draft picks? And what eby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
No way the Rams get a 1st rounder, and probably not a 2nd. High draft pick plus high salary just doesn't happen in the NFL unless it is a QB or a Superstar. TruJ is none of that.by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Quick and Britt represent years of offensive failure and inconsistency. So even bringing in like for like talent is the better move to refresh the roster and bring in new (higher) player expectations. Quick and Britt know only Fisher and his mindset. And it is not so easy to just jettison an old mindset and level of expectation for a new one. It is more psychological than physical.by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
