I was the 8th grade spelling champion of Olustee High School. It was my major accomplishment in life, so far. And no... I wasn't the only one in the spelling bee... Paula Kauk and Debbie Johnston were in it, and they were GOOD!!by Aries - Bucky's Pub
Don't know that much, but Saudi Arabia is in some sort of standoff with Russia and is dropping oil prices to force them to negotiate. Or something. Probably contributing to the sell off in the stock market, along with corona virus fears.by Aries - Bucky's Pub
Nah, I've really enjoyed the discussion and advice. I will keep that in mind if I end up not using it much, you'll get first dibs.by Aries - Bucky's Pub
The drummer dropped out a few days ago, and the talent show we were preparing for is in just a couple of weeks... so we have dropped and aren't working on anything at this point. I'm thinking more in terms of maybe next year, if we run into the same drummer problem. By then, maybe I'll have figured out how to work with it. I really appreciate the offer though!by Aries - Bucky's Pub
Yeah, I couldn't believe how big the thread got. I blame Steve really... he'll talk to ANYONE! :lol1 I do have Windows computers, and a iPad that has GarageBand on it, but I've never messed with it. The SR-18 doesn't have a usb port, so I'm not sure if there's any way to record stuff on a computer and get it to the machine. Unless midi will do that, but I know nothing about midi. But shows them adding "layers"...by Aries - Bucky's Pub
Yes (looking at your diagram), I've seen that on some other machines. Similar to this: But I don't think the SR18 does it like that (as far as I remember seeing), but rather you tap each button at the proper count of the measure. A couple of taps, and it remembers it and adds it to the pattern. I want to say the Roland TR-08 worked more like the chart, but now that I ordered one, everby Aries - Bucky's Pub
I believe from watching the videos that you can add one instrument at a time. I tried to find a really SHORT video showing that, but most are at least 10 minutes or longer. I'll find one in a little bit.by Aries - Bucky's Pub
I'm not sure I'm following you... the one I ordered, the buttons on it are the only things you can "play". But yes, per some of the videos I've watched, you tap the button you want (for example, snare) a couple of times during a sequence and it adds that sound to the sequence, in rhythm. It will make small corrections if you are not exactly on the beat, I think.by Aries - Bucky's Pub
Yep, saw it. I'll probably take a closer look at it when I get the machine, and that will be my first programmed sequence to compare to the recording.by Aries - Bucky's Pub
...is Friday, so I'm looking forward to it. But I'll probably have to play with it a little while before I even know what questions to ask.by Aries - Bucky's Pub
It's a variation of Murphy's law. Except it's due to Baker's Law. Baker's Law says "Murphy was an optimist." Seriously, I would assume that would happen with glass to the same extent as mirrors?by Aries - Bucky's Pub
I worked a little shot in at you too... I'm good like that! :lol1 I never could play lead, at all. I'm like the guy in Sultans of Swing, "Running strictly rhythm, he doesn't want to make it cry or sing." I can play a little bit of bass guitar, and I read an article once that said bass players are frustrated lead guitarists. Applies perfectly to me, I would LOVE to play lead guitaby Aries - Bucky's Pub
QuoteJamesJM BTW... I haven't looked into it in a long time but I think you can buy preprogrammed .wav files for those drum machines to use for exactly the purpose you're looking for. Yeah, I was wondering about that, but haven't looked into it yet. Not sure how you'd get it into this machine, unless you can do it through midi, but that would be interesting. Lead guitar players are the WOby Aries - Bucky's Pub
Yeah, that's not really the same thing so it's no wonder you weren't on the same page. I guess the electronic part of that does some of the same things but you actually PLAY drums. So I couldn't figure out why a drummer would need a drum machine. That was going to be my next question for you. I want one that completely replaces a drummer, because we can't find one we can depend on. Drummby Aries - Bucky's Pub
How come you didn't respond at all when I threw shade at you earlier in the thread?? :lol1 My little shot was really clever and I worked hard on it... Crickets. it takes all the fun out of it when I can't get under your skin a little! I thought 3-5 days was plenty quick enough to get it, but now I keep watching the tracking number to see when it's going to be delivered.:bandby Aries - Bucky's Pub
I watched a few youtube videos this morning on the Alesis SR-18 and the Roland TR-08, and just ordered the Alesis SR-18. There were some additional shipping options when I placed the order, so total price, under $170 (used), but it will take 3-5 days to get here. No problem, I'm not in a hurry. The videos just made the SR-18 look MUCH easier to work with, and I think it will do much more thaby Aries - Bucky's Pub
That is actually a concern that my buddy has mentioned... his exact comment was the problem is, if we use it we had BETTER stay up with it, because it's not going to adjust to our mistakes. Drummers around here are REALLY hard to find though, and they're inherently undependable. We had a kid lined up who is pretty good, he (we were told) said consistently for a month he wanted to play but couby Aries - Bucky's Pub
I assume it just has one output, but I don't find a picture so that's the description on the Roland website. It's hard to tell how it compares because they don't use the same terminology as Alesis. This is what the specs say about "user memory": Pattern, Intro/Fill-In: 16 Bank (12x16 Pattern, 4x16 Intro/Fill-In) But I don't know how that compares. They also talk about "by Aries - Bucky's Pub
Okay, so the reason for all that is so you control the volume of each sound (snare for example) independently of everything else through your mixer, am I understanding that correct? I could not find pictures of the back of the Roland or Korg (I have eliminated the cheap Korg from consideration), but based on what they list it looks like the Alesis has the advantage on outputs Roland specs lby Aries - Bucky's Pub
Wow, that's extremely helpful and a LOT of information. I hope you didn't spend a ton of time typing that out... You're right, the terminology is different so makes it hard to compare. Right now, I'm leaning HARD toward the Alesis SR18, because if you've had something similar for a while and are happy with it, that tells me it will probably do WAY more than I would ever need. Do you know anything about drum machines? Here's why I ask... I don't really perform publicly, but once every year or two a buddy pulls together a few people to play 3-4 songs in a talent show. Usually classic rock stuff. But we can't keep a drummer. Or if we can find one, he doesn't have a drum set (which is pretty much like not having a drummer). So I was wondering about a not expensivby Aries - Bucky's Pub

Oh. One of the comments in the particular video I watched said she was 11.by Aries - Bucky's Pub
Ya know, if she was in her twenties I would say she's good... not amazing, but good. But for 11? There's a lot of maturity in her voice for someone that young. She has a TON of potential, I'd say.by Aries - Bucky's Pub
We should have dinner together sometime. 'Cause I LOVE shrimp, and I wouldn't give you any of my shrimp if you begged me for it! So you wouldn't have to worry at all about me pushing it on you. :lol1by Aries - Bucky's Pub
My doctor told me if I gave up donuts, I'd live two years longer. I said let me get this straight... YOUR way, I can't eat anymore donuts, AND I have to live without them for two extra years. MY way... I get to eat donuts until I die! Easy choice! LOL! (Actually, that's not true, I straight up stole it from a comedian.)
