Nice Christmas stories, Steve.
Over the years we've had several days when snow fell but it 'stuck' only once... and not during Christmas. Late January of 62'. I don't know 'how much' BUT... the 'drifts' were up to our windows. I would guess a foot, and maybe 2? It was enough to shut us down... like you. Two weeks we were shut down... well, as far as auto travel.... because during those two weeks of snow not a person in my hometown was 'confined'... we were OUT.... building snowmen, pulling inner tubes with tractors, walking miles to visit neighbors. Not a person within 5 miles of here escaped without being hit by a snowball... several times! Not a person within 5 miles of here escaped having a snowball shoved down the back of their jacket, or stuffed down the back of their pants.
My German Shepard, "Bonanza", and I thought heaven had come to earth! We couldn't even sleep thru the night... we'd have to wake up, several times, to go out and frolic in the snow.
Not sure how many snowmen I built that year but I can say my 'tallest' was right at 12'. He lasted, by the way, for many days after the snow on the ground had melted away.
