Sometimes the pay can be extraordinarily good, but its not consistent, so ya never know.. I'm in the same position: If I continue to play I'll have to put together a new project.. I want SO BADLY to blow my old bandmates away, who are playing, but only pulling in 30-40 people a show.. it still amazes me that these guys so desperately wanted to give up sold out shows.. So, I REALLY need to put together another band and continue to sell out whatever shows I book..
The main place we play, tho, just was sold.. Supposedly the new owner will continue live entertainment.. another place in town would be perfect, but refuses to play the ASCAP/BMI fees to safely book cover bands.. Its difficult right now.. for me to put together another band I would want it to be 50-50 originals/cover tunes.. meaning I hafta record the originals, which is a major pain in the keyster..
..and if I DO another project, it would have to show-wise blow the old band away, so just massive amounts of work.. But, it would be worth it in the long run.. its just difficult to get things rolling.. I DO hope the Mountain Oysters come to life.. You'll hafta post updates that that project progresses...
