If you don't understand a language it always seems fast.... but I do think Spanish speaking people speak a bit faster than English speakers. Same for Italians.
With my 'untrained' ear some languages do not seem as fast to me as the latin based languages... German for example. I can clearly hear and distinguish words spoken in German, even though I don't understand any German at all. But listening in on a conversation in Spanish is like getting hit with a machine gun blast of words coming at warp speed.
Now my daughter could compete... win, I think. The more excited she gets about her topic the faster she speaks... I often have to signal for her to slow down... but once she builds momentum it's difficult for her to just stop.... it's like in Spaceballs... "We can't stop, we have to slow down first". - JamesJM
