I think it has to do with advertising demographics

why there aren't more specials featuring the stars of yesteryear while we can still interview them. And not just movie and TV stars, same holds true for sports figures, and for me even scientists, authors, and on and on.

Willie Mays is still with us.... ever see him interviewed? The man is living history for Pete's sake and yet almost forgotten. We have actors alive today that made silent films... I would LOVE to hear from them. - JamesJM

I know Longmire was one of the highest rated shows on A & E but the dumped it after season 3 because its audience was primarily older and didn't generate the kind advertising dollars they were looking for. Fortunately for us Netflix picked it up for the final 3 seasons.

I read an article somewhere that its the same reason CBS dumped the Jesse Stone TV series (picked up by Hallmark Channel) despite it having good ratings.
