I am also a Costner fan....

....I think he is a really good actor, and I'm especially fond of his westerns. We all have our opinions on who's great, and who's not. But both westerns are great movies. I happen to give the edge to Wyatt Earp. Not necessarily cause I think Costner was a better Earp, but at least partly, because I thought Quaid was a much much better Doc Holiday. My goodness, from everything I've ever read about the real Holiday, I felt Quaid captured him as well as anyone ever could.

But what I liked most is the much broader life story of Wyatt Earp. The movie was aptly named, as was Tombstone for taking place mostly in the legendary town.
Someone mentioned that Wyatt Earp probably wasn't very realistic.... well historically speaking..., what period piece ever really is? I think I can pretty much guarantee that the 'real' Doc Holiday never uttered the phrase "I'm your huckleberry". As everyone knows, all we can really hope for is that the film makers can provide some 'realism', by really doing their homework, and then provide some good actors to bring it home.

Some folks don't like 3+ hour movies. Not so with me... if a movie is done well, and I am entertained by it..., I'll sit thru 5 hours or more. Of course, these days we can take all the breaks we need to smiling smiley

Unforgiven is still my favorite western...., and I personally believe will go down as Eastwoods' masterpiece.
