I miss the old school Conferences. Even as an SEC guy, I enjoyed the Nebraska vs Oklahoma or Oklahoma vs Texas games....UCLA vs USC etc etc. I miss the days of 13-15 bowls games, when teams were THRILLED to be there. You not only had to have a WINNING record, you had to hope for an invite to a bowl. I'm about RIVALS that lead to TRADITIONS. Florida / Georgia is STILL my favorite weekend in NCAA (No matter the records of either team)
Since PLAYOFFS have entered the picture, all the above has faded fast. It's ALLLLLLLL about the playoffs. Now we have players sitting out Bowl Games because they are not worthy enough. My Gators had damn near the whole team sit out their Bowl last season. Pissed me off to no end.
NCAA game day experience went from hearing the crowd and Marching Bands to the SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME crap you get at NFL games....ANNOYING Techno music played at 1,978,645 decibels . Concessions are NFL prices now. I still call NCAA ball (ESPECIALLY in The Swamp) a great experience. But it has taken several steps BACKWARDS in the last 15-20 years.
