When I was in San Diego at one point I was broke and just getting by...I had this old klunker of a car that would "diesel" badly now and then when you turned it off.

One earthquake I was in (I was in several) I didn't even know it was an earthquake. I had just parked and I thought my car was shaking and dieseling. I didn't realize for a while that it was an earthquake.

One stronger one I was in, I felt it in the house and stepped outside when it was over to see if anything was damaged. The newspaper kid was walking along delivering papers as usual--he had made no effort to find appropriate cover and had just kept walking. When he saw me he smiled this big silly grin and said "wow that was a bad one hunh!"
