My point is that we live in a society where trust in our institutions is at an all time low and that includes the global scientific and medical communities.

So we live in a society that is partly completely irrational. Nothing new about that in history.

There is actually no real reason to "distrust" medicine and science as global institutions on something like a pandemic. I mean we've beaten them before.

It's not the majority in the USA though. If you read around about polls and research, around 2/3rds of the population trusts the medical profession as a profession, and trusts medical research.

It is completely rationale to have concerns about taking a vaccine that has not gone through the normal, rigorous approval process that may have unknown long term side effects.
