I have a priest friend who has no reason to lie to me and when we first became friends in our college years 30 plus years ago—I bring the point up because the ‘P’ word seems operational on how many people have responded to this crisis—was left of center politically.
He told me within the last month he said the funeral Mass for two parishioners who died after taking the vaccine. Both were healthy. They died from the vaccine.
So, I know of two.
That’s not a lot compared to 70 million who’ve taking the vaccine and have done well.
So, maybe I’m making this up—being a faceless guy on the internet. You have no way to verify. But I know who I am and what my goal in life is and that’s to see reality and retell it to others as I see it. Have I lied in my life? Yes. As have we all. But living that life of having to cover over lies is toil I’m too lazy to deal with.
Having said that, I’m not intending to get the COVID-19 vaccine. If one person died from it, that’s one too many for my risk threshold. I don’t even take the flu vaccine they offer every year and the reason is the same. I had a college friend who had the rare case of losing a family member after the flu vaccine.
This doesn’t mean I’m going to dissuade people who want to get the vaccine from getting it. Nor am I going to look down my nose at those who get it. People are thoughtful and most didn’t just say, “Ah, the hell with it. Here’s my arm, doc, administer the jab!”
But in lieu of not wanting to cut my life short should I be one of the few unlucky to be adversely affected by it, I feel no moral obligation to put my life at risk to protect the lives of others. That makes no sense to me. And I say that with a clear conscience and one that I examine regularly. Peace!
