I think this is my favorite war movie of all time. I've seen it maybe 1/2 dozen times. It was on tv today and I watched it again. I always see something I didn't notice (or didn't remember) from watching it before. Anyhow, when Captain Miller grabs James Ryan on the bridge near the end to whisper in his ear "Earn this" right there I start bawling until the end of the movie, James... in the cemetary... what he says... the sincerity and the grief, and then hearing General Marshall reading the excerpt from Abraham Lincoln's letter.... it's just so poignant and moving and it gets me every time.
