I had been out of the USAF for 5 months and my late Brother and I were REALLY starting to bond. We were 6 years apart in age so he was always ahead of me and I was just the runt little Brother. We equaled out while I was in the Military. AAANYWAY......That 4th of July, we spent the day at Jacksonville Beach. We got there VERY early to beat the impending mob. LOLOL My Brother brought a BRIGHT yellow kite that was only about 3 feet across..if that. And SO HELP me, the largest roll of string I have ever seen!!! The wind was coming off the ocean so it took off easily and flew great. We flew it at about 100 yards for an hour or two. Simply tied it off and it stayed. When we were about an hour from leaving, we let out the entire roll. I swear that kite was about a mile + inland! It was so far, the kite could not been seen by people passing by. WE saw it because we watched it go out. We told some kids, who asked what we were flying, that we had "INCREDIBLE FLYING STRING!" They believed us. As we TRIED to bring it in, the winds picked up and ...SNAP!!!..... the string broke about 50 yards from us. SOMEWHERE inland from Jax Beach, a kite crashed and over a LARGE area of Jax Beach was a LONG line of string! On the way home, we drove down the main drag, 3 blocks inland but never saw the string.
