Those bat kites seemed MUCH more durable. In the mid 70s, our Neighbor, who was about 35 at the time, flew a Bat kite in the street, in front of his house, two doors down from us. WELL.........He got the string snagged waaaaaaaay up in a Southern Pine tree. The string snagged in the tree but the kite was still extended a good 20-30 feet above the tree. I'm guessing the kite (A BAT kite) was about 120 feet up. He tugged on the string and it snapped. But the kite was STILL flying from above the tree. NO JOKE....It flew for a solid TWO days before it finally fell apart. It fell back into the tree where it would remain for close to a year.
