They were and are rivals for me just like for you. I have a ranch near Coalinga but I live 50 miles north.
We didn't play many towns south of us, well, very far south that is. Not even Coalinga. So we never played Wasco, Arvin, Shafter, Corcoran. I think I've only been to Corcoran a couple of times in my life.
It's changed quite a bit since my days in HS but our rivals were Dos Palos, Caruthers, Latin/Riverdale, Firebaugh... and in my days Mendota came to HS here in Tranquillity so even though a major rival today I never against Mendota. - JamesJM
