I was a farmer... all my life. Grew crops that required Bees... all my neighbors did also. My point is: For most of my life I was stung regularly. It didn't bother me. Didn't think twice about it.
Yesterday I went out to an open field I use to target shoot; practice before my CCW renewal class this Saturday. I had just finished firing off a magazine and was reloading when I felt it. Man did I ever feel it. One of those "everything in life must stop until I deal with this agonizing pain" pains. Palm of my left hand near my thumb.... I even said "Ow"... I actually said it aloud.
Then it took a while to locate the stinger and pull it out... my eyes aren't what they used to be.
Last night the 'itch' set in, kept me up half the night.
this never used to happen to me, not ever. Sometimes while working and getting stung I wouldn't even bother pulling the stinger out... now? Now the pain is worse than a paper cut...no exaggeration.
So ok, I'm haven't gone all 'terror stricken and hysterically afraid of bees' BUT... it did make me wonder... if I felt that bad of pain from a bee what's it going to be like when I get stung by a wasp? And it's coming, oh yes indeed it's coming, there is no avoiding it. - JamesJM
