Even where I live North thru East is getting very polluted because of the city of Fresno... which glows brighter by the second. Fortunately it's not horrible for me yet but it's certainly a lot worse than that part of the sky was when I was a kid until about 40.

Worst thing about that is that North thru East is the most 'active' part of the sky for most notable sky events. The Perseid's, by the way, are a bit of an exception to that... they occur pretty much all over the sky compared to most meteor showers. So if you have even a 'small window' of semi-dark sky you may get lucky. - JamesJM
