can come from contact with superior beings from a similar planet.. We can't even get along with the people on OUR planet, so I doubt we'd get along with aliens.. even if they were cool.. we'd end up pissing them off somehow..

Now, possibly we find a planet where WE are much more advanced than they are.. then we can push them around and thumb our noses at them.. but, I honestly think it'll be the other way around, unless they just flat out flatten us for fun.. That will happen the day after I win the lotto...
