Seriously... I think I would think "Hey, that's cool" even if the aliens were attacking. I'd be depressed about it, sure... but my sense of 'wonder' I don't think would completely go away.

I think I agree with you... about friendly or not so friendly odds should an encounter occur. Haven't really given it much thought but what you say sounds reasonable to me.
