took a quick break, I got hungry.
Now does that mean I'm not too into it? Ehhh, maybe, that could be... here's my thoughts so far, and this because it actually applies to many of these horror/scary movies I've seen lately:
Some of them are 'done' very well. Well acted, directed... very good cinematography, brilliant 'lighting', in fact if you consider the entire scope of horror/scary movies vs any other 'genre' you choose I believe horror/scary gets the nod as far as the 'average' quality seeming to me to be quite good. Learning that was surprising to me. The Nun fits that IMHO... well acted, good cinematography..... a story that is quite 'stale' for me. A teen, (my grandkids), wouldn't see it that way... obviously, it's 'new' to them.
Now.. the Nun... the 'story'... like most horror/scary movies there's a lot of 'been there done that' for me. So the 'tale' isn't intriguing me. The jump scares that all horror/scary movies use, (even Jaws), one expects so while some are done better than others in general I'm not impressed by them. That isn't to say a sudden LOUD noise accompanied by some demonic face won't make me jump, it will.... or I should say 'can'; but for the most part jump scares for me are kind of like jokes you've heard several times too often.
I think I like it more than you, I WILL finish it, about to do that now... BUT...no, I don't think it's a great movie, at least thus far. - JamesJM
