My son, the gourmet, says New Orleans is the greatest city in the USA for food. Wrote here, some time back, that I tried to get to N.O. on a motorcycle trip just to sample the food but couldn't get there... they shut down the roads leading into N.O. due to a possible hurricane... so I never made it.

I did, however, get somewhat close... and traveled extensively throughout the south, both near and far from N.O. So I don't really know if what I sampled was like N.O. or not.... but it was damned good. I remember one of the most amazing discoveries, (to me anyway), was pulling into one of those "Quick Stop" place for fuel and having some of the best fried catfish I've ever had. In Calif. food at those type of places is NOT known for quality.
