Chris Ledoux never really made it big, although posthumously he's doing well. This song made me a fan of Chris... before he died. I loved the story... I suppose mostly because I had the good fortune in my life of meeting several people this song describes to perfection - and from all across the west, Calif, Nev, Az, Co, Tx, Montana, Wyoming... et al.

Odds are there are people like described in this song closer to you than you think. You just can't see them from the road.
