Dad used to say the best mechanics (mostly the old school) are the ones who could make do with what was on hand instead of running to the store for new parts. I remember as a kid watching a local old school cut the bottom out of a coffee can which he used as a shim. This guy was character, complete with bib overalls and a mouthful of Mail Pouch. You had to watch where you knelt down in his shop.
