Many years ago, and no idea if it's the same today, I was in Utah visiting with an old army buddy. We were headed to a restaurant when he pulled into a "Government Liquor Store"... I had never heard of such a thing. It was the only place you could buy liquor in Utah, or at least in Salt Lake City.
But that wasn't the big surprise... he took the bottle INTO the restaurant. Then, we ordered two glasses of "ICE". That's it, just ice. But paid the cost of an actual drink. Then he proceeded to open the bottle and pour us drinks. I had to ask, "Shouldn't you at least be a little secretive? What if you get caught?".
Well, he looked at me with a very puzzled expression on his face... "Get caught? For what?".
That was how you drank in Utah... or again, at least that's how you drank in Salt Lake City, or did.
