You couldn't be more correct. If I switch channels IT WILL BE a commercial. Which brings up:
While I'm semi-happy with my new setup... using over the air plus a few services thru AppleTV and Firestick... one thing for sure... 'movies', (not so much TV shows), are unwatchable on commercial networks.
Yesterday I bought a movie for my grandkids to watch last night, (the new Jumanji, pretty good by the way)... and while we're waiting for it to download I saw that Jurassic World was on one of the TV stations, (over the air). We watched it while waiting and I timed it... this is NOT exaggeration.. I literally TIMED IT.... 5 minutes of movie and then anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes of commercials. Not quite 50% commercial time but close to it.
Now here's what gets me... I TIMED that... so I know it happened for a FACT.... yet if you read articles about commercial time EVERYONE, not just the networks but those who write about this stuff, will SWEAR to commercial % time being around 4 to 1 ratio. BS... utter BS... insulting BS. Perhaps on some shows... like I said, it doesn't seem to be that bad on old sitcom reruns, (the only TV I watch and that rarely)... but for the movies, at least the ones I've seen, it's commercials WELL over 25% of the time and nearing 50%.
That brings up a quick tale.... when my oldest grandson made our Valley's All Star game I was driving to Fresno to watch it and listening to a local pregame show talking about the game. Fresno is about a 45 minute drive for me... I had the radio station on backing out of my driveway... they were just starting the broadcast and talking about the players then went to commercial before I hit the street in front of my house. Pulling into Kerman, Ca. - - 15 minutes from my house, i turned to my wife and said, "They've been on commercial break since we left home". They had...
Then nearing Fresno, 15 minutes later, they still had not come back from commercial. (the end of this wont' be as bad as I'm making it sound right now). Then it's another 15 minutes making my way thru Fresno to the football field... we pull into the parking lot and they STILL had not come back from commercial... this is 45 minutes since I left home!
Ok, so what I found out later is they had an excuse.... they had problems with the radio link from the football field.... so they ran commercials for I don't know how long... 45 minutes straight for sure.... so they had an excuse BUT.... not ONCE during that 45 minute commercial marathon did they say they had technical difficulties.
